El uso de mascarillas por la población general reduce la transmisión comunitaria de determinadas enfermedades respiratorias. Al bloquear la emisión de gotas, su uso está justificado cuando no es posible mantener la distancia de seguridad.
Partiendo de la evidencia científica disponible, la aplicación Identificador de mascarillas tiene varios objetivos:

1. Facilitar la elección del tipo de mascarilla más adecuado.
2. Orientar sobre las características y uso de las mascarillas.
3. Definir la protección que proporciona cada tipo de mascarilla.
4. Exponer la normativa y certificaciones que debe cumplir cada tipo de mascarilla.

Las mascarillas son sólo un medio complementario de protección. Es fundamental seguir cumpliendo con el resto de medidas preventivas recomendadas por el Ministerio de Sanidad, como la higiene de manos y la distancia física de 2 metros.
